My first 2D animation, I spent many hours trying to first acclimate myself with how Adobe Flash’s interface worked. Inspiration originated from animators and artists such as Ryan Woodward (Thought of You) and John Su. Animation company BirdBox provided a source of reference for simple but effective storytelling animation. Their 3 Olive Vodka commercials are especially amusing and fun to watch.
The final project has over 1000 individually drawn frames from over the course of four days. The overall process took ~60 hours, including story boarding, script-writing, pre-recording, post-recording edits, preliminary animation blocking, final animations, and video/sound editing. There are many things I wish to improve onward from this project, including animation smoothness, exaggeration in poses, and proper timing. I learned so much from the project and hope to do more smaller projects with Flash in the future. Visit my blog post on this work for a more in-depth and personal account of the process.
