Just a hop n’ a skip away

And just like that, the new year is around the corner. It’s definitely always a surprise to see time pass by so quickly, but the extra time winter break has given me has allowed me to redesign/reprogram my website and blog setup. Multiple WordPress themes were combined together in an attempt to unify both the parent home url (christopherhsing.com) with its more active child link, the blog. I am delighted to reveal that the transfer of information and site structure has been mostly successful. There is a ton of extra work I need to do to re-link all the past photo/music uploads, as well as reconstructing my portfolio pieces, but I believe that this new setup will allow for greater flexibility in the future.

This is an initiative test post, since the method of uploading, featuring, and cropping pictures is slightly different from my previous blog. Hopefully everything is working out all right now. There’s still much more that needs to be done. My parents have told me that some of the text is too light or too wimpy (aka, girly). That was a problem with my past website (which can still be found here), which more or less prompted me to pulling out a more masculine (but simple) presentation.

I’m not sure how well that turned out. Regardless, let me know what you think of the new face for the site. Thanks to those of you who have stuck with the blog so far. There isn’t much interesting stuff going on in my life, since I’m incidentally not the most exciting person in the world, nor do I attract the most excitement, but hang in there for your and my sake. ^.^

Okay, upon further examining your website, I have a few comments:

    1. In your About section, you use “Hsing” to refer to yourself once, and “Christopher” every other time. It’s nitpicky, but I prefer consistency throughout.

    2. Your most recent blog comments show up on the bottom of the Home page. Normally I like this, but since you’ve got people like Isaac and myself leaving, um, less serious comments fairly often, I think it takes away from the professional quality of the site. It’s probably fine for now since it’s a personal blog anyway, but once you want the main purpose of your website to be professional, you could let those comments stay just for blog-readers.

    3. Also, if you intend on keeping the title @themoment, perhaps it would be a good idea to include the title somewhere at the top of the page? Not sure whether or not this is possible with your WordPress configuration. And it’s not at all anonymous, silly.

Overall I really, really like the new look. I don’t think it’s girly at all. The feeling I get is not feminine energy, but rather a desire for beauty in design, and I’ve always appreciated sites that pay attention to design and typography.

SO ANYWAY there are my long two cents. 🙂
